The Route de Vin commences in Chagny and links through Rully, Mercurey, Givry, down to Buxy and Montagny. The area takes its name from its principal town of Chalon-sur-Saône. One of the more unusual wines is the white Mercurey, which can be drunk young. The region produces a lot of generic Burgundy, and since 1989 these wines have been labelled as Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise.
